Despite Higher BMSB Populations, Attract-and-Kill a Success

BMSB populations were 2.5-4 times greater in 2016 than in 2015. Yet, despite this higher pressure, attract-and-kill performed well. In particular, the use of attract-and-kill technology resulted in equivalent control to grower standard methods for damage frequency to both perimeter and interior trees in attract-and-kill blocks compared with grower standard trees. In addition, damage severity per fruit for attract-and-kill trees was only half that found in grower standard trees. It seems that even under higher population pressure, attract-and-kill is effective at managing BMSB populations.
