Sporadic Apple Damage in Mid-Atlantic

While the frosts that happened earlier this spring were able to inflict enormous losses on the peach crop this year, they comparatively spared the apple crop. Some growers emerged completely unscathed, while a few had 30-60% crop losses in select apple blocks. Pink lady seemed particularly hard hit this year. However, we are proceeding as planned for the research for this SARE attract-and-kill project for this year, as we will only be short 1-2 orchards this year out of the 10 we had this past year. This should be sufficient to demonstrate whether attract-and-kill is a suitable management tactic for apple growers in the Mid-Atlantic.
